THE
 MeGaNaNo
CUBE

After moving to our "new" home in which was
originally constructed in 1860
I decided the flooring and the electrical wiring
would be stretched to the limits by my 110 gallon reef.
I have been planning a comeback with a tank of lesser proportions
to fit into our new home and still keep the saltwater
flowing in my vicinity

30 Cube Cherry

The Show Tank

The show tank section of the system is an Oceanic Cube
33+ all glass with black silicone and Cherry trim
Modifications began almost immediately
see THE TANK

I have an Iwaki MD40XR pump moving water
from the basement sump up through 1.25" PVC to a OM sea Squirt to two
distribution manifolds under the live rock buried in the DSB
the water will fill the tank and spill over into the rear mounted external
overflow chamber where it will enter again 1" PVC and drop to the
40 gallon sump in the basement

The Sump / Refugium
I constructed this sump refugium starting with a 40 gallon AGA breeder tank and adding the custom cut .25" glass divisions with silicone
The first chamber on the right side is where the  1" overflow deposits the surface skim water from the show tank into the  skimmer chamber
The water then goes under the first wall of the bubble trap and travels up the 1" chamber and falls over the middle wall  and then back down the second 1" chamber eliminating almost all skimmer chamber bubbles
Water then travels under the 3rd wall and enters the refugium chamber
a short angled  divider keeps the water from churning up the sandbed while directing water up to the macro algae refugium area
The water then falls over the 4th divider and enters a passive media shelf area constructed from light grid plastic where I put bagged media or floss if required and then passes over the stainless steel 300 watt heater in the bottom of the chamber then the water goes under the 5th divider and enters the pump pickup area to be returned to the show tank
